Resources - School Profile

Woodroffe Elementary is a Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6 French Immersion Centre. Junior Kindergarten is offered in English with twenty minutes of French instruction daily. From Senior Kindergarten to Grade 6 we offer French Immersion only. Students in SK and Grade 1 are taught uniquely in French. From Grades 2-5, students receive one hour of English instruction a day. The Grade 6 program is 50% English and 50% French. We are continuing to experience growth this year with approximately 600 students expected, most of who will use the school buses.

Our school mascot is the Humpback Whale and our school colours are green and blue, symbolizing our commitment to environmental issues. We use our resources carefully, recycling paper wherever possible. We encourage students to use re-usable containers for their lunches and snacks and to rinse out their milk cartons and recycle them at home.

Most of our extra-curricular activities are run during the noon hour. We are fortunate to have Woodroffe E.S. staff volunteering their lunch time to oversee a large number of activities including the Annual Woodroffe Cross-Country Run, the Woodroffe Cross-Country team, the boys and girls soccer teams, boys and girls volleyball teams, Olympic days and the Woodroffe Track & Field teams.

In response to parent interest, additional lunchtime activities such as the Stamp Club, Arts & Crafts with Lillian Robinson, Mad Science & French Chess Club were offered by external groups for a fee last year. We participate in many board-wide activities, and we have traditionally had an active arts programme thanks to parent donations. The Woodroffe School Council is very active and works to support student learning in a variety of ways.
